How cute is that?
I’ve been absent from the blog this week. My favorite people in all the world, my cousin and her husband, came to visit. I consider Beth more sister than cousin – we were both only children and she was my idol growing up. Her husband, Fayne (yep – that’s Wayne with an “F”), is one of the greatest guys in the world. We don’t see them nearly often enough, but since they both recently retired I’m hoping they’ll find their way up here more often.
For five days we ate and drank ourselves silly. We did a lot of hanging out in the backyard, watching the animals. The entire time, we laughed.
Petting a pig for the first time puts a smile on everyone’s face.
Oooohhhhh….
Of course, being industrious folks, we worked.
Our big project was adding on to the pallet lean-to in the barnyard. This lean-to replaced one that came with Doink and Brandy. It had seen better days. After we built the new one, I realize that it was too tall – Brandy couldn’t jump up on it like the old one.
Problem solved! We found the stairs at our handy-dandy building material recycling center and painted them a spring-like green. Spare wood from behind the garage became the platform and completed the project.
It has received the Barnyard Seal of Approval!
While Fayne and I were using power tools, Beth was painting the name of all the animals on the pallets. COULD NOT BE CUTER.
The roofing material was VERY interesting to Brandy. (Note slat without a name…we took that to mean the barnyard needs one more resident!)
Now wait…what about me? Is there an elevator or somethin’?
Brandy’s desire to play constantly surprised Beth.
All the excitement wore that pig out – nap time!
It was a great visit for both man and beast. The spirit of the visit reminded me of a passage in one of my favorite children’s books, The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant.
…They ate up all our strawberries and melons, then promised we could eat up all their grapes and peaches when we came to Virginia. But none of us thought about Virginia much. We were so busy hugging and eating and breathing together.
Thanks ya’ll for all that breathing together – it was perfect.

Aww I love your animals! I keep begging for a couple of goats…but hubby keeps saying no. Oh well, have to make to with the fish, dog, cats & chickens.
