The Project List

I took my first spring stroll around the barnyard this weekend to identify the most obvious projects to put on the unending (in a good way) list of repairs and improvements.  Actually, I TRIED to sit down and simply look around, but Jessie was having none of that.

Hey! Are you taking photos again? How about one of you and me? Yes? Yes?

First on the list, there’s the Christmas lights.  I like ’em, so they’re staying year round.

But maybe, just maybe, I might want to hang ’em a little better?

Then there’s the matter of the steps on the back of the pallet lean-to.  I bought finished interior stairs at the used building supply place.  I painted the particle board treads, hoping that would protect them from the elements.

Yeah, that didn't work.

Yeah, that didn’t work.

My rock pile for Jessie and Brandy to play on has turned into…less of a pile and more of a blob.

It was much taller when I stacked it.

At least I can say it's gotten a lot of use!

Oh, and there’s a distinct headed-to-the-right vibe at the lean-to.  Since Jessie and Brandy play on it daily, it needs to be stabilized.

Yessir, we've got ourselves a lean-to that's leaning.

Yessir, we’ve got ourselves a lean-to leaning the wrong way. Oh my.

But the big project is my adopted roof.  It’s been there since I brought it home.  Every time we had a big snow or wind storm this winter I held my breath and hoped the whole fence wouldn’t collapse.

That is one big roof.

That is one big roof.  And it’s seriously heavy.

I’ve got a plan.  I think the barnyard gang will approve.  Until the winds of spring subside (it’s blowing like CRAZY out there right now) I hope the fence will stay put.  I discovered the roof has been around so long something’s growing in there…

First Brandy started sniffing...

First Brandy tried to get at it…

Then Doink got curious and came over.

Hmm. Something smells good here. Better take a closer sniff.

Hmm. Brandy’s right.  Something does smell good around here. Better take a closer sniff.

Really. Smells. Good.

Really. Smells. Good. But. Can’t. Quite. Get. It.

Doink took a LONG time sniffing.  Brandy decided to take a rest.  Usually she sits on the stump, looking stately and pretty.

She's such a zen goat.

She’s such a zen goat.

This time, not so much. (She’s not dead, just napping.  I promise.)  Not a very flattering pose, is it?

Oh, Brandy.

  1. It looks warm there. A nice warm (although, windy) day. I could have one of those right now.

  6. Ha! Love to see your ‘to-do’ list, especially since I have just been round our land and made lists too! Nice to be doing it, since it means that the warmer, outdoor-type weather is here. But I find I’ve become out of condition during the winter – don’t know what’s happened to my stamina. I think a little at a time is the answer. 🙂

  7. Nice to see others have long lists too. I am hoping the spring sun will give me some ambition to get mone all done. I love visiting with your farm animals!
