We are so lucky to have county-owned open space behind our house. We’ll never have neighbors back there. Except animals. And we love having animals for neighbors.
When we first moved in, horses roamed those acres. We fed them carrots and rubbed their noses. Eventually, cows replaced the horses and we eagerly look forward to the first cows in the spring.
This year was no different. Mamas and babies showed up. I talked with the farmer a couple of times. The hay was baled by the farmer’s singing son. (You missed the singing hay baler? Really? You might want to “like” The Chicken Mama Facebook page.)
Anyway, we’ve seen a lot of cows back there. Not to mention the deer, coyotes, foxes, and once…a bear. Doink even has a mini fan club of hikers that visit him regularly.
Oh, but last week THIS GUY showed up. O.M.G.
He is the rock star of the cow world. And I think he knows it!

That is truly impressive!
Wow, are your girls going to like him? Could have new kind of babies!
HaHa! I’ve only got chickens and goats. There’s a big fence separating him from us – thank goodness 🙂
If that’s not photoshopped all I can say is what the heck? Look mighty dangerous for him, getting caught up on something… holy cow, I mean steer…

I wondered about those things getting caught, too. Hopefully he’s a careful man!
Oh, and I have no photoshopping skills. If I tried to photoshop horns on a bull they’d probably end up on his butt!
Whoa-nelly!! I wonder if all them lady cows are impressed.
They totally ignore him. He yells, they just look at him like, “What is your problem?” and go back to eating grass!
Does size matter? Ha!

That really is one beautiful animal! I’ve been chased by cows before – while riding my bike through an open pasture that I didn’t realize was home to a herd of cows (that’s what you get for biking where you shouldn’t be). This city girl never rode so fast . . . and I’m embarrassed to admit I ended up in a tree until the hubby could get the situation under control. I’m not sure what I thought they were going to do to me, but I wasn’t about to find out. Chances are they thought we were bringing them food.
Oh my – what a story! I have a vague memory of being chased up a tree by a pig when I was young 🙂 Glad you were ok!
What a handsome guy! I love those ol’ Long Horns, we have a few in my hood as well and I love to sit and watch them. It’s amazing how huge their horns can grow too. Seems heavy and hard to hold up at times though.

Ha! I grew up there, but left as fast as I could 🙂 I’m in Colorado, and we think that’s a member of the Watusi breed of cattle – it’s different than a Texas longhorn.
Thanks. BTW, I’m outside Austin wishing I weren’t. lol
