We had two snowstorms come through this week. After living in Colorado for thirty years, I’ve learned to love the storms that blow in and dump a bunch of snow one day then quickly leave so we have brilliant sunshine the next. That’s much better than deep cold or the relentless winds that make everyone and everything miserable.
I checked on the animals a lot while the snow was falling. They acted like travelers stranded at an airport during a storm. They were trying to make the best of the situation, but they were none too happy with what was going on.
The first storm was the big one.
The barnyard set-up has evolved over the past year and a half, and shows it weaker side when the snow flies. Every time I’m out there I dream up a few more upgrades I want to do this spring.
This is my first winter with Doink and Brandy. Now in addition to shoveling out TO the animals, I shovel FOR the animals. The day after the snow, after things warmed up a bit, everyone was anxious to get a little exercise…
And outside the barnyard…
Like everyone else (including the animals) I’m ready for spring. Yet I appreciate living where the four season are so distinct, so completely different. It’s ALL good!

Me too! I can’t wait to see green popping out somewhere 🙂
I love this post! You are so funny, I love your humor, descriptions and your photos are fantastic. You are such a good mama digging paths for all your peeps to exercise or just get around in. I can now see why you have been shoveling SO much lately. That is a TON of snow! I know Spring is coming and hope you can plant your seeds before to long too.
“The Doinktona 500” I am still laughing… my fave.
Have a great weekend friend

Thanks so much Jen! I’m really loving this time in my life – that’s what I hope I’m conveying here on The Chicken Mama.
We’re having a beautiful sunny day here today – the snow is melting before my eyes! Yea, spring!
lol! I burst out laughing at your “Doinktona 500”, Joan! lol! Those poor animals must get so confused when that snow starts piling up and they wonder where their yard went! 🙂 Loved my visit here today!
