When I wrote this post about Doink, I had no idea what the future would hold for my sweet pig. I was truly scared.
His physical recovery took around two weeks. His front hoof bled on and off for three full days. He limped for ten days. His mouth, which I didn’t even know was injured from the tooth saw, healed but still looks tender. I didn’t see him munching on grass in the early morning light for a solid two weeks.
But now, things are better. He’s out in the morning and is not spending so much time in the shed during the day. He’s running back and forth between the treat plates filled with fruit scraps I put out in the afternoon. Nothing better than watching a pig run for some watermelon.
Today was the turning point, though. He laid down in the warm sun and let me rub his belly and talk with him for a while. These are times I don’t have a camera, don’t take pictures. Private times.
I told him again how sorry I was. I said I thought he was a good, brave pig. I thanked him for being such a caring friend to Short Beak the hen, who’s not feeling great. I whispered I appreciated his patience with Brandy, who really, really needs a goat friend to play with.
If I could guess the meaning behind his expressive, piggy eyes and his low, soft grunts while I was petting him, I think he told he’s ok now. I think he said we can move on.
And we shall.

You always hope you’re doing the right thing, hindsight is a wonderful thing but not much help in the present 🙁
Doink loves you because he knows you care. It’s obvious you do, a lot x

Poor Dink. 🙁 I feel so bad for him. I’m glad that he is on the mend. He seems like a sweetie. Maybe I should get a pig….
