I think this has been the longest I’ve gone without writing about the animals since I started this blog. What a nutty couple of weeks it has been. The job is crazy good, Very Excellent Husband Don gave me his very unexcellent cold that rendered me wholly unproductive. We’ve had a warm spell of weather that has been glorious. The wind has been blowing and blowing and blowing. That’s a mixed bag, yes?
But hey, in the past there would be a new story in the barnyard every day, a messy-this or a silly-that. And at the end of that day—after feeding and watering and tucking everyone in—I’d pull off my dirty muck boots with the boot puller my mom gave me for Christmas (best gift ever) and go, “Whoo hoo, that was a good one!”
Sometimes they’d whisper their stories. Sometimes they’d shout. (Doink is not a whisperer.) They are such good storytellers. Much better than I am.
But recently, they’ve been holding out.
Are they mad I’m not around as much? Do they even notice? I don’t know, but they’re keeping their stories close to the heart these days.
It’s crazy. I’m trying to listen.
So I guess I’ll wait. They can’t stay mad forever.
Reporting live, with absolutely no story to tell…The Chicken Mama.
Hilarious! Missed you and glad you’re back.
Thanks!
Your companions are enjoying their lives, content and wrapped up in ‘barn yard’ politics!!
You’re a great listener w some cozy boot warmers, what more can you possibly need???
Reading this while working on a TV show, my trusty faithful 75lb dog Lumen at my side, and this reminds of ‘real’ life. Hugs to you and your critters!

I’m pretty much set for happy livin’, that’s for sure! Give Lumen a good pat on the head from The Chicken Mama 🙂
I’ve missed you too but what great photos. They tell the story on their own. I love the chooks photo and Doink, well his photo just cracks me up. The alpacas are funny too. Glad all is well apart from the dreaded cold which I think we have all had this year (me twice!).

No more colds for you!
Love your updates, I am sure it is a bit challenging to work elsewhere…
Missed you, love the pictures, cheers me up!
Thank you so much!
It’s always good to hear from you. Glad the job is working out and that you’re feeling better now. Your critters could never be mad at you! You take such excellent care of them!
Enjoy your weekend!

It is so difficult to be focused on two worlds at once. There is always a sacrifice. Wishing you well and hoping you are finding a balance that works. As always, looking forward to the next post.
Miss your post Joan. Hope all is going well for you.
