I feel a bit sheepish. I feel a bit embarrassed.
After all my sub-zero cold weather drama…today, here in Colorado…well, it was 65 degrees in the barnyard. (Snow is predicted for the weekend, so we’re not out of the woods yet, haha.)
To celebrate, Lucy and Ethel flew over the fence and came up to the house to socialize a bit. The door was open, and they waltzed right in…
Some of you suggested that White Leghorns, a chicken breed with a huge single comb is not a great choice for all the cold weather we have here. You would be correct. However, I don’t know what I would do without those two. They have more personality than a lot of humans I know. They bring me great joy. And smiles. Lots of smiles 🙂

Those are some darn lucky chickens! Happy Christmas Joan.

Back at ya, City Boy! May your holidays be full of cheer, love and those yummy drunken cherries you make!
Awww, too funny! I have a white leghorn and I just love her. Her comb usually shrinks up a lot in the winter time when she molts, so we don’t have to worry about frostbite thank goodness!

Good to know! Lucy and Ethel are only 6 mos. old and didn’t molt at all. Maybe next year their combs will shrink. Something to look forward to – thanks for the info!

Haha those two are hilarious and so adventurous. As always I love your narrative, seriously love it! Your such a good barnyard mama, I have no doubt those girls and all your animals will be great in any weather.
In the last week we had three hard frost followed by two days of temps in the 80’s now we’re back in the 30’s and it’s raining… Keeps it interesting anyways.

What would I do without them?
I’m not even there, and they make me smile, or maybe it was your great comments. Thanks for sharing once again on Tuesdays With a Twist.

They are some exceptional chickens!
How cute! When I had my indoor chick, Bird, she enjoyed taking a stroll around the house. Yours sure had a fun time.

What a hoot!! I don’t know what our girls would do if they happened to get inside. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this with us at the HomeAcre Hop. Always enjoy your posts.
The White Leghorns are such a beautiful white bird. I would love to get one too but would have to check if they can tolerate the weather here in the Midwest. Our weather this year has been so darn cold.

Well, their wonderful floppy combs need some special consideration, but mine are the first ones out in any weather – even sub-zero!
