Looking Forward…And Back

Hello, 2014!

We rang in the new year…sound asleep. Might not sound exciting, but Very Excellent Husband Don is starting the year with a long bike ride (in 32 degree weather) and I was tired from working in the barnyard all day.  We had a wonderful dinner with our best friends and turned in early.  I consider being able to do that without a shred of regret one of the benefits of getting older and being happily married.

I’m looking forward to lots of great adventures in 2014.  I don’t make lists, but I want to do more yoga, get better at the nuts and bolts of this whole blogging thing, and add a few animals to the barnyard.  Pretty basic, but when it’s not broke, don’t fix it.  Right?

Looking back…  Ah, 2013, you were quite a year.  You kept us on our toes.  You kept us moving.  You were not the most relaxing year on record.  But all in all, you were good to us.

The best part of 2013 was being virtually introduced to so many new people via this blog. Thank you readers, for visiting and reading and commenting about the goings-on here at Happy Mama Acre.  If you’re a blogger, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading about your adventures as well!

Here’s some of the highlights (and lowlights) from the barnyard this year!

Doink and Brandy - A Kind of Love Story
The story of how the unlike couple of a pig and a goat made their way into my barnyard - and my heart.
It's Hard Being Keela
She's the little puppy I found all alone in the last cage at the dog rescue. She's crazy. She's my best friend.
Goodbye Liberty
Not the best day of my life.
She Wants To Be A House Hen
Of all the hens, Sofia is the most human.
You Can't Always Get What You Want
We welcomed a new member to the barnyard.
Houston, We Have A Problem
The new chicks have turned into a couple of troublemakers!

  1. Happy 2014!! As always I was overjoyed to see your post. I just had to go back and read Doink and Brandy’s love story and just like the first time I read it I chuckled. It was the first posting of yours that I had read and I have been a “Groupie” ever since. I hope the new year brings you and all your loved ones lots of good adventures and for the grumpy adorable pig I wish him lots of warmth, sunshine and belly rubs!!

    • Warm wishes to you as well, Sue! As for the pig, he’s had a lot of belly rubs recently, but the snow is falling right now. He’ll need to wait for that warmth and sunshine! Here’s to a year of new adventures for all 🙂

  2. Happy 2014 Joan to you and the family. You certainly entertained us during 2013 so we are expecting the same and more. A road trip with the animals perhaps? Maybe visit a preschool with the animals and doing some one on one video interviews with the kids about their feeling for the animals?

Best of luck and keep them coming.

    • I’m thinking getting Doink in my car for a road trip would be….VERY interesting! I’ll ask him about it. We’ll see what he thinks!

  3. To our barnyard friends at chickenmama…you have indeed kept so many of us well entertained last year with your clucking, woofing, oinking, bleeting, mooing (this year?), and all other silent noises you do:) Looking forward to more good cheers:) Happy new year to you too Joan!

  4. Happy New Year! We normally stay in for the new year, but this year we went to dinner with some friends then hung out at their place after to play board games. I was never much for partying! Haha.

It has been so much fun to follow along in your journey. Your writing style is so neat and funny and I always enjoy my visits here 🙂

  5. Happy New Year Joan! Loved your reflection of this last year. As always super love visiting here and keeping up with all the happenings. Looking forward to seeing 2014 through your lens and writings (always make me smile)…. What animals are you thinking of adding this year? So exciting!!

    • Funny you should ask about animals! Late last night I ordered three Olive Egger chicks, to be delivered in June. Whoo hoo!

      • Yay so fun! I have one Americauna and she’s two now. Been molting but egg production slowed wayyyyyyy down prior. Hoping for a few more from this girl. The blue shell is so pretty.
