I Bought A Roof!

A roof. Somehow, I know I need a roof. Don't know why. Just know.

A roof. Somehow, I know I need a roof. Don’t know why. Just know.

So, I have the BEST friends in the world.  Hands down the best friends. Ever.

On my daily Craigslist search for whatever looks good, I recently found…a roof.  A roof advertised to be constructed of intentionally rusted, not galvanized, metal.  A 7.5′ by 10′ roof. Well built, by a professional carpenter. And I thought, I might need a roof, and this one is quite nice.

Calls were made, deals were done.  I became the proud owner of a roof.

Here’s where the friends come in.  More calls were made.  Scott, Angie, John and Excellent Son Cameron all said, “Sure, we’ll help you move this roof.  And we won’t even mention that you’ve lost your mind.”

I hopped in the truck and met everyone at the roof.  I brought a Sawzall.  In less time that you can say, “What the hell are you going to do with a ROOF???” we cut my roof from its posts, loaded it on (not in) the pickup, and headed home.

I'm sure that little rope was gonna hold that roof on the truck...NOT.

I’m sure that little rope is gonna hold my roof on the truck…NOT.  Let’s just hope for the best, ok?

Did I mention it was 97 degrees outside?  Did I mention the truck doesn’t like hot weather?  Oh, and the truck was designed to be driven by a six foot five inch cowboy?  And I AM NOT THAT COWBOY?

No really. I need a booster seat.

No really. Look at me.  I need a booster seat to see over the steering wheel.

The truck died at every single red light on the way home.  At least twelve.  To push the clutch in (yes, it’s a stick) pretty much my whole body disappears from view.  Thank goodness all the cops were working the football game on the other side of town.

That's legal, right?

That’s legal, right?

Did I mention I have the best friends in the world?  Me and my dying truck with my big ass roof on the back, had not one but two cars following me all the way home.  I think I can, I think I can…

Truckin'...yeah, we're truckin...

Truckin’…yeah, we’re truckin…

Now, I have a roof on our truck in our driveway.  Freaking awesome.

That might be enough for most roof purchases, but not this one.  To celebrate, we had a beer and watched chicken TV in the barnyard.  Two more friends joined the mix.  We made margaritas.  We ate tacos.  We drank beer.  We built a fire.  We made s’mores.  We toasted the arrival of the roof.  Till late in the night.

Did I mention I have the best friends is the world?

Oh, and that roof?  Yeah, I’ve got big plans for that roof.

You knew that, right?

  4. I want a roof too! LOL Actually, it looks to be in perfect shape – just weathered! I can’t imagine what you will do with it, but I have a few ideas myself! Wouldn’t it make a gorgeous backdrop for a fire pit? Thanks for the great story!

    • Yes, this rain is bad and getting worse. We’re on high ground, thank goodness. I wouldn’t know how to evacuate with a pig 🙂 But this is a very serious storm. I’ve got friends with flooded basements, the sirens were going off last night, and the rain is not over yet. Be safe, everyone!
