More Fun For Goats – Again!

My favorite people in the world, Cousin Beth and her husband Fayne, visited over the weekend. We always wind up with some kind of barnyard project to do and this time was no exception! Beth took one look at the barnyard and thought the placement of the new logs for the goats to play on could be improved. Fayne and I set about moving them around until she was happy.  This is a typical … [Read more...]

Doink And The Epic Fail

I know you've had a day when things weren't going right.  We've all been there.   Well, today was special in a WHAT MORE COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG kinda way. I had one goal for the day.  Finish painting the new shed.  I've not shared the building of this shed with you, because I wanted it to be all spiffy and cute before I showed it to ya.  A little Chicken Mama surprise. Painting around … [Read more...]

What’s That In The Barnyard?

There's something in the barnyard that wasn't there before. Rapunzel was a little shocked. Brandy tried to hide. Doink, well, Doink wasn't paying much attention. Is the anticipation just KILLING YOU? Well then, meet the Littles! We needed a little joy in the barnyard to lift our spirits, and these two guys were just the ticket! I've actually been … [Read more...]

Last Snow? Please?

We got a big 7" dump of heavy, wet snow earlier this week.  If there's one good thing about spring, at least the snow doesn't hang around for long.  I believe this was the last snow of the season. As usual, every year when I say it's the last snow in early April, Very Excellent Husband Don tells me no way.  I'm happier with my own self-delusions, however, so the last snow it is! I shoveled … [Read more...]

More Fun For Goats!

Oh, lordy what a wild ride it has been this past couple of weeks. A sick chicken.  A dog with a bad cut on her paw. A strangely paranoid pig. Renewed interest in some sewing projects.  Couple of awesome finds at the thrift store.  Egg production WAY up.  Surprise visit from Excellent Son Sawyer.  Fun with friends so often we feel like college kids again.  Never a dull moment and not much sleep, … [Read more...]

The Project List

I took my first spring stroll around the barnyard this weekend to identify the most obvious projects to put on the unending (in a good way) list of repairs and improvements.  Actually, I TRIED to sit down and simply look around, but Jessie was having none of that. First on the list, there's the Christmas lights.  I like 'em, so they're staying year round. Then there's the matter of … [Read more...]

Be Careful What You Wish For

Unlike those of you on the east coast, our snow here in the foothills of Colorado has melted.  Our three feet of white stuff is gone.   The barnyard is all dormant grass, and not even mucky anymore. Why?  Because we have WIND. We've had it on and off for five days.  It sounds like a freight train out there, with gusts of over 60mph, especially  in the night and early mornings.  During … [Read more...]

My DIY Hay Feeder

Well, the first project of the new year is installed.  I built a hay feeder for Brandy and Jessie.  Yippee! I had been using hay bags and they were a pain to take down, fill, and hang every day.  They were also falling apart.  Their only asset was I had hay in two places.  Brandy never shares nicely, but she can't be in two places at once - ha! I have a multi-level shed for the animals, with … [Read more...]
