A Pound Here, A Pound There…Uh-Oh!

Yes, Brandy, the camera does add 10 pounds. Point taken.

Yes, Brandy, the camera does add 10 pounds. Point taken.  But no, I’m not going to Photoshop your waistline!

Recent guests to cocktail hour at Happy Mama Acre have almost all asked the same question.

Is Brandy getting fat?

The answer is, unfortunately, YES.

When sweet Jessie came to live with us, I started putting out free-choice hay.  That’s what growing baby goats need.  Before Jessie,  I gave Brandy about half a flake a day (a flake is a measure of hay, a piece or section that a square bale naturally divides into) with her goat chow at dinnertime.  She was happy.  She didn’t know other goats were getting a hay buffet 24/7.

Now there’s hay available all the time.  Par-tay!  I’ve been watching Brandy eat like a pig (sorry, Doink) morning, noon and night.  And it shows.  She’s a bit chubby.

Oh my. This is not her good side.

Oh my. This is not her good side.

And perhaps a bit self-conscious about her weight gain.

I'm not coming out until you put that camera away.

Her chow has been reduced to a mere nibble, just enough to distract her for a minute so Doink can get his food inhaled.  Otherwise, she rushes his bowl and tries to push him out of the way. Oh my.

Maybe I’ll see if there’s an old Jane Fonda Workout video at the thrift store.  The best thing for a little weight gain is a good exercise regimen!

I think the leg warmer look good, don't you? Come on girl, make it burn!

I haven’t quite figured how to give Jessie all access to the hay and restrict Brandy.  The girl does love to eat.  I’m sure I’ll figure out something!

It's just a few pounds, Brandy. We still love you.

  1. Haha, the leg warmers are too funny! I think she looks cute, but I know it’s not good for animals to be overweight. I struggle with that with my animals all the time, especially my indoor cats. I hope you can figure out a good solution with the hay situation!
